Can’t type in Windows 10 Search bar

Many Windows users can’t type in the File Explorer search bar or Cortana search box on taskbar because they can’t click search box to start typing, especially after a Windows upgrade.

How to fix Can not Type in Windows 10 Search bar:

Method 1. Windows Explorer & Cortana

1. Open Task manager from Task bar.
2. At Processes tab, find “Windows Explorer” going to Restart.

3. Find “Search” process and right click End Task.

4. Reboot your pc & try to type search bar.

Method 2. CTF Loader (ctfmon.exe)

The CTF Loader (ctfmon.exe) is a genuine Windows process that manages the User Input and Language bar. In some time, the ‘ctfmon.exe’ process may not working properly and must be started again.

1. Go to Run box (use keyboard shortcut Windows + R keys).
2. copy this command:
C:\Windows\System32

3. paste in run command box and Enter. Find “ctfmon.exe” and send it to Desktop.

4. Open run command box, copy “Shell:common startup” paste command box and press Enter:

copy ctfmon.exe shortcut from desktop and paste in the start up folder
5. Now restart your pc. then go to search bar and try to type.

Method 3. Re-register Modern Apps

1. Go to start menu and right click from mouse. select Windows PowerShell (Admin)
2. Now copy this command:
Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

3. paste in the powershell & press Enter
4. Reboot your computer and then try to search.

Method 4. Using the DISM and SFC utilities, fix Windows corruption errors

1. Open command prompt run as administrator.
2. At the command prompt window, type the following command & press Enter:
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth

3. When the operation is completed, Use this command and press Enter:
SFC /SCANNOW

4. When scan completed, Reboot your computer.
